At Illumination, we use a loot system called EPGP. This system removes any ambiguity that might occur when distributing loot to raiders and ensures everyone in the raid is appropriately rewarded.
Essentially you are awarded EP (Effort Points) through raid attendance and gain GP (Gear Points) when you receive loot. The EP/GP ratio determines your position on the list for loot, with higher ratio equating a higher position on the ranking list.
This is the addon that we use and it will allow you to see the EPGP table in game, along with the GP value of items: epgp (dkp reloaded)
The system only applies to our Normal/Heroic Raids (MoP); Heroic/Mythic (WoD).
EP and GP Values
EP is awarded according to the following:
- 25 for being present 15 minutes before raid starts at 7:45 pm. Note general raid invites at 7:40 pm.
- 250 for the full 3 hours of raid
- 25 for each progression boss attempt
- 250 for progression boss kill
If you are subbed out mid-raid or put on standby at the beginning of the raid, you must be present at 11 pm (either on your main/alt, or contactable via vent) or available when required during the raid time to receive the full amount of EP for that raid.
If a raid is cancelled on the night, all those present will receive the full amount of EP they would have potentially received for that run.
GP is gained according to the following:
The default GP of the EPGP addon are used. As a general guide, a normal (MoP) item will have a GP value of 500, 750, 1000, or 2000 GP depending on slot.
Everyone has a base GP of 500.
Loot Distribution Procedures and Rules
Main spec (MS)
When a piece of gear drops, the loot master will announce the peice of loot that will be distributed. Anyone who wishes to receive that item for their MS must show an expression of intrest by simply doing a '/roll' command. This notifies the loot master that you are interested and the loot will be distributed based on the EPGP standings and the appropriate GP value will be charged.
Off spec (OS)
If the piece of gear was not taken as MS, then the item will first be made available to designated backup Tanks, Healers, and/or DPS. If the item was not taken for backup roles, then it will be available for all raiders; the game's standard /roll system will be used and the raider with the highest roll wins the OS item. Winning an OS will not incur a GP gain through the EPGP system.
Off spec gear is only to be used for offspec purposes. If a raider is found to have won offspec gear but using it for their mainspec they will be charged double for that gear.
Gear will be distributed to Raiders first according to EPGP, then Trials according to EPGP.
i.e. Raider MS > Trial MS > Backup OS > Raider OS > Trial OS > Disenchant for Guild Bank
Everyone's EP and GP will receive a weekly decay of 10%. As this does not change the raiders' EP/GP ratios, the rankings of raiders for loot is unchanged.
The decay system is a mechanism to rein in inflations of points, to reward consistent raiders and to discourage 'hoarding' by not rolling on items which may be an upgrade but not BiS.
The % decay and frequency will be monitored by the officers
Nex Edit 28/02/15 - This section was completely stuffed up due to arithmetic error. Funny no one noticed over the past few months - shows how many people actually read the forums when we raided. It seems the new raider benefits more than the long-time raider.
This section is now corrected but I'm now unsure how the decay maths will work - you can it out Alex.
As a simple example to demonstrate its purpose, consider two raiders both with EP/GP ratio of 2:
- Experienced long-time Raider A has 20000 EP and 10000 GP while new Raider B has 2000 EP and 1000 GP.
- Both raiders A and B receive the 1000 EP for the raid night
- As a result, the ratios for raiders A and B would have changed to 2.1 and 3 respectively
However, if a 10% decay was to have taken place before the raid:
- Raider A will now have 18000 EP and 9000 GP while raider B will have 1800 EP and 900 GP
- Both raiders A and B will again receive the 1000 EP for the raid night
- Now the ratios for raiders A and B have changed to 2.11 and 3.11.
